Retro Action RPG Mazes & Monsters Roars Onto Android

Monster Robot Studios, the indie developer best known for its fan favorite sidescrolling action-RPG Heavy Sword and the physics based pirate simulator Down With The Ship, is back with an epic action adventure game called Mazes & Monsters, an isometric adventure that draws inspiration from all corners of the gaming map for a satisfyingly deep experience that cranks the nostalgia meter up to eleven.

As the famed “Hero Of Destiny” it’s up to players to rid a magical land of ferocious monsters that plague its peaceful townsfolk and the surrounding countryside. They’ll be doing alot more than just slaying monsters however as there is plenty to see and experience in Mazes & Monsters aside from completing the main quest. Tired of all the hero on monster violence? Take it easy and go fishing down by the pixelated lake. Feeling lucky? Play any number of crazy minigames in town for extra loot and equipment.

While it bears more than a passing resemblance to The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past, this is more of an homage as Mazes & Monsters boasts some truly unique gameplay that takes the aforementioned franchises ideas into some interesting new directions. Part of the inspiration for the Mazes & Monsters name is due to the heavy influence traditional RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons has on the game itself. In addition to finding new weapons and items like in The Legend Of Zelda games, there is also an intricate experience points system that allows players to unlock awesome new moves and increase their base stats.

Mazes & Monsters will blow you away with its nostalgic beauty and sheer wealth of things to do and slay. Monster Robot Studios really stepped up their game with this one, and we look forward to seeing what other great games the indie developer has in store for us in the future.

You can pick up Mazes & Monsters for $1.99 on Google Play.
