Kickstarter Spotlight: Goober’s World

Goober’s World is an anime styled platformer that has just been launched onto Kickstarter from the one man indie team Emergency Studios. Emergency Studios consists of just Joshua Hale and his goal with Goober’s World is just to create a fun new platforming game that will be available on multiple gaming platforms. This new Kickstarter project has been heavily inspired by classic platformers like Super Mario Bros, the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and also the Mega Man franchise – and those are some good sources of inspiration if you ask me!  So far Goober’s World is looking very promising and thanks to it’s great retro graphics and fun platforming gameplay it is sure to be a hit for gamers of all ages.

It just so happens that the once peaceful world that Goober’s World takes place in has just been taken over by an evil spirit named Minus. While Minus conquered these lands he also captured all of the the world’s inhabitants; a race of peaceful green blob-like creatures known as Mochi. This certainly is a terrifying situation for the Mochi, but if there’s one positive to the situation it’s that Minus missed capturing the game’s soon to be hero Goober. Goober must set out on the adventure of a lifetime as he does what he can to save the captured Mochi, gather all of the precious crystals of power, and most importantly of all put an end to Minus. Does this little green blob have what it takes to save the world from the evil presence known as Minus?

Goober’s World is takes place across five unique worlds that are based on the four elements (Earth, Fire, Wind, Ice), and also the land of Electricity. Each of these worlds conclude with a huge boss that must be destroyed in order for you to continue on your journey. As you make your way through the game’s campaign you’ll gather coins – as you might expect you’d do in a platformer -but in Goober’s World these coins will are worth more than just extra lives. The coins you collect can be used in the game’s store to buy special bonuses like Double Jump, Super Speed, and a whole lot more!

As you journey through the game’s many worlds you’ll also come across the aforementioned power crystals that will reward Goober with some great new powers that will help him to progress through the game. You’ll learn to throw deadly fireballs, shoot icicles that will freeze your enemies instantly, along with a number of other cool powers. These powers are not just going to help you to destroy baddies and bosses though, but they are very valuable in accessing the game’s many secret areas as well!

So what are Joshua Hale’s plans for the Kickstarter funds he receives? The majority of the funds received will be used to buy the development tools and DevKits that are needed to get the game out on multiple platforms like the OUYA, XBox, iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, PC, Mac, OnLive, Linux, and hopefully Steam too. The additional funds will also go towards replacing his outdated computer, to get some audio plugins for the music, and also to access additional resources like a graphics artist and maybe even a couple of coders.

In its current state Goober’s World looks to be shaping into a very solid platformer. It has received inspiration from classics of the genre but it has also mixed in a whole lot of modern gameplay elements that really make the game stand out as something awesome.
