Wacky 2D Fighter Haymaker Slams Onto OUYA
You may be surprised to know that despite the wide variety of games available for the OUYA, the system has never actually had a standard Street Fighter style fighting game available to play. Until now that is, as the wacky indie PC fighter Haymaker has brought its crazy brand of brawling to the Android powered console so OUYA users can beat each other senseless too. A fully featured arcade fighting game, Haymaker has everything you’d expect out of the genre like multiple playable characters, combos, and special moves. It’s got alot of visual flair as well with full 3D graphics, detailed textures, and animated backgrounds all running on the powerful Unity engine.
Although Haymaker is a great looking game the rest of the package is relatively bare bones. Players can pick one of four unique brawlers like a generic cool guy or trucker as they fight either the CPU’s or other players’ characters in traditional fighting game fashion. There are light, medium, and fast attack buttons, a block button, and pressing the right trigger unleashes a powerful special move. Despite all that though the majority of the combat comes down to mostly button mashing and using special moves. For the only fighting game available on OUYA it’s actually not bad and for a 2D fighting game you can play on the couch with a friend you could definitely do worse.
If you’ve been itching for a Street Fighter game for your OUYA look no further than Haymaker, just don’t expect too much. You can pick it up now for $.99 with a free trial on an OUYA near you.
