Adaptive Arcade Shooter Super Spaceship Wars Soars On Android
I’m a huge fan of arcade style shoot ’em ups, so I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise to me then that indie developer Zamaroht’s addicting new retro shooter Super Spaceship Wars has taken up a good bit of my time lately. An intriguing homage to vector graphics powered shoot ’em up classics that comes across as a mix between Geometry Wars and Asteroids, Super Spaceship Wars does a terrific job of infusing old school arcade gameplay with subtle modern tweaks in order to provide a dynamically challenging experience. Interestingly enough, Super Spaceship Wars was designed to be accessible to both shoot ’em up veterans and noobs alike thanks to an intelligent adaptive difficulty engine that dynamically alters enemy units and behavior on the fly so things don’t ever get boring one way or the other.
Like most shooters the goal of Super Spaceship Wars is to survive for as long as possible against wave after wave of pixelated enemies, however instead of simply avoiding crashing into an enemy ship while players blow them apart here they actually shoot back with surprising accuracy. Each enemy has a different approach to attacking the player than the rest and they tend to work in concert to ramp things up a notch. In order to hold out for any length of time players need to master Super Spaceship Wars’ well crafted control scheme that makes slight but excellent use of players’ acceleromoter to my astonishment.
If you’re a fan of arcade shooters like Geometry Wars you’ll definitely want to check out Super Spaceship Wars. You can pick it up now for free on Google Play.
