Outrun Graboids In New Arcade Survival Racer Desert Worms
The cult classic monster movie Tremors never received a video game adaptation much to the chagrin of 90’s children everywhere however a new physics heavy arcade racer by the name of Desert Worms has arrived to rectify the lack of giant sandworm terror in our lives. This hybrid off-roading arcade/survival mashup comes by way of Extreme Forklifting developer Devm Games and incorporates some of the key Tremors film tenants such as noises attracting the creatures to one’s location. As a hotshot space buggy driver players must race across open ended levels collecting vital mission data without getting munched on by hordes of very hungry sandworms.
Collecting this data is easier said than done however as the worms are constantly chasing the player down which forces them to either find a concrete foundation where the worms can’t get to or do crazy nitro fueled leaps off of ramps to escape. The worms are rather proficient at staying on top of players and later levels introduce Sarlacc Pit like obstacles that lie in wait for unsuspecting drivers. Fortunately players are able to even the odds with power ups such as a ground pounding ‘thumper’ mine that can distract the worms with vibrations.
Desert Worms is free to download on Google Play with micro-transactions. It is also available on iOS.
