Hybrid RTS Brawler Defend Your Turf Storms Onto Mobile

A crossover between the RTS and beat ’em up genres is probably one of the last video game teamups you’d ever expect to see but one such new genre breaking mashup by the name of Defend Your Turf has arrived on mobile devices to challenge that convention. The brainchild of indie developer Stephen Folkes, Defend Your Turf is a superb retro style strategy game that refines traditional RTS mechanics into an elegant streamlined format while incorporating beat ’em up elements like the ability to pick up weapons off the ground and use the environment to one’s advantage. It’s up to players to take command of a pixelated gang as they take the fight to a rival band of hooligans that have invaded their territory.

Fans of classic RTS games such as Command & Conquer will get a kick out of Defend Your Turf’s touch friendly controls as they emulate much of the same UI such as the ability to drag a box around units to select them. Across each level players must figure out how to defeat a superior opposing force in environments that can take on an almost puzzle-like atmosphere at times since blindly throwing all your grunts at the enemy head on will usually result in failure. With its highly polished presentation and great original soundtrack Defend Your Turf just might be the most fun I’ve had punching people while doing bits of strategy.

Defend Your Turf is free to download on Android and iOS.
