Arcade Dodge ‘Em Up Mulch Blossoms Onto Android

A charming new arcade style dodge ’em up about a ravenous fungi devouring organic matter as it rains from the sky dubbed Mulch has taken root on Android devices. The brainchild of indie developer Bearmask Studios, Mulch is an homage to the simple yet eminently challenging retro catch-a-thons of yesteryear as players attempt to consume oodles of different mushroom delicacies before they hit the ground and violate the 5 second rule. With its appealing retro aesthetic and combo based spin on the simpler forebears it shares DNA with Mulch successfully updates the classic dodge ’em up formula without sacrificing its purposeful accessibility.

Players move their spore sprouting protagonist about the screen by touching either side to have it slide in that direction. As varying types of plant food fall from above players must collect a prerequisite amount of each to complete the level. This is easier said than done however as once players reach quota for any one food type that variety of food will then deal damage if collected which can quickly turn the sky into a hail of bullet fire if not managed properly. Collecting strings of food types together in a combo can garner additional lives which becomes imperative as players reach more complex stages. Fans of oldschool arcade style games like on the Atari 2600 will have a blast with this retro homage.

Mulch is free to download on Android and iOS.
