Old School FPS Gloomy Dungeons 2 Revives A Classic Genre
While there’s no denying the coolness of being able to play classic first person shooters like Doom and Duke Nukem 3D on the go, these kinds of mobile remakes are always accompanied by an overwhelming sense of deja vu. It’s hard to get invested in a tense firefight or challenging puzzle when you’ve already faced it countless times over the previous decade. And while most have moved on from the iconic retro fps genre, independent developer ZameDev is bringing it back in style with the new shoot ’em up Gloomy Dungeons 2: Blood Honor.
Gloomy Dungeons 2 is a much more polished game than its predecessor. For starters, the awkward controls from the original have seen a complete overhaul by utilizing a dual stick setup akin to the Modern Combat series. New additions like achievements and hidden areas scattered throughout each level provide plenty of fan service, and the graphical fidelity has been greatly improved while still retaining its Doom-esque art design.
If you grew up on games like Shadow Warrior and Doom, you’ll get a kick out of Gloomy Dungeons 2. It’s available for free on Google Play.
