Friday Night Indie Game Round-Up #14
Welcome to the 14th edition of our weekly Indie Game Round-Up. This week we have found another great selection of indie games for you, and there’s some real gems that you’re going to want to check out. New this week is a compilation video of some of the games added this, so make sure to watch that too. Also, vote for your favorite three games in the poll located at the bottom of this post.
ChromaBurst from Army of Noob LLC
Everyone knows about brick-breaking games like the arcade classic Arkanoid. There are a tonne of games on Google Play that try to replicate this simple formula, but few do it as well as ChromaBurst. ChromaBurst uses the gameplay formula you know and love, but it has added a bunch o unique additions that are new to the genre. You have access to two power-ups that are activated by pressing on one of the buttons on the side of the screen. These can only be used once their charging meter is full, but when activated you are sure to see a serious boost in your score. Combine this with the game’s fun combo system, colorful art design, and huge amount of content, and you’re sure to be addicted in no time.
- Use the paddle to aim the ball, destroying bricks.
- Touch the power buttons on the sides of the screen (when fully charged) to activate the special powers.
- If your last ball loses all of its lives (gets too small), it’s game over.
- Special bricks exist in various levels to help you along your way. But be careful! Not all special bricks are on your side.
This gorgeous re-imaging of the classic Arkanoid gameplay is available either as an ad-supported free version, or for just $0.99 you can remove all advertising from the game. The choice is yours! Bounce over to Google Play and check out this fantastic new casual game.
Don’t Run With a Plasma Sword from XperimentalZ Games
Don’t Run With a Plasma Sword is a sci-fi themed runner that started out its career on the iOS. The game received huge success, and has had over 500,000 unique downloads since it’s release. The game has finally made its way onto Google Play, and I have to say it was definitely worth the wait. While some gamers are sure to complain about the fact that it is an endless runner, the game has a lot more going for it that you might expect at first glance. The game has a bunch of game modes, several difficulty settings, and a tonne of skills and upgrades to purchase. Most importantly the game is just a heck of a lot of fun. I downloaded this the minute it hit Google Play and I have enjoyed every minute that I’ve spent playing it.
- 5 environments: City, Factory, Mother ship, Alien Planet, Tandoori Moon
- A story mode with fixed game progression, save points, boss fights and 4-stars rating system
- An endless mode (5 levels), random map generation and objectives to accomplish
- Evolving gameplay through upgrades and avatar customization
- 3 buttons contextual controls: jump, slide, slash which becomes double jump, dive and dash in the air
- Several monster types, traps, power-ups and rewards to collect
- Comic storyboards
- Awesome original soundtrack and sound effects
- 2 supported languages, English and French
When DRWAPS was released on iOS it was a free download, but it had ads and several IAPS to contend with. However, the developers have changed this method entirely by releasing the game on Android as a premium release, and in turn removing ads, IAPs, and by making it easier to accumulate XP in the game. I highly recommend giving this game a shot. Right now it is on sale for just $0.99, but when it returns to it’s regular price of $1.99 it will still be well worth the purchase price. I highly recommend giving DRWAPS a download.
High Noon from Legion Games
High Noon is a fun new retro-themed duelling game that pits the player against an endless number of opponents via one-on-one gunfights that take place at high noon. Your enemies will walk in from the side of the screen, and you are going to want to shoot them before they shoot you. High Noon mimics shoot-outs from the wild west, and it makes for a fun and unique take on the “endless” genre.
High Noon is available as either a Lite or Paid version. The Paid version will give the player access to all future updates that the game might have, including new characters and game modes. The Lite version is ad-supported, and will not be updated with any new content in the future. If you want to check out the full version of High Noon it will only cost you $0.99 on Google Play.
Kata Ball (Word Ball) from PJ Game Studio
Kata Ball is a new word game that looks to try to revolutionize the genre. What makes it stand out from other games on the market is how it has implemented several different languages into the mix. While this may not sound too revolutionary, the way it is implemented is quite unique. The game has been designed to teach players new vocabulary while they play the dropping ball game, and this can be used to teach young ones new words in the language they are currently learning, but it’s also a great way for adults (or younger players too, I suppose) to learn some new vocabulary in a different language. Along with learning you will be testing your reflexes, speed, and strategy to in order to complete each stage successfully.
- 5 Languages : English, Spanish, Indonesian, German & Bulgarian
- 6800+ Words, 6500+ Palabras, 4800+ Kata, 5000+ Wörter, and 6800+ думи to play with
- 9 Levels, 45 stages and 6 types of enemies
- 5 Special Items and 8 Upgradeable skills
- 15 Ranks to achieve
- Free Daily Rewards
- 3 movement modes
- Different High scores for each level
This unique new learning/word game is great for gamers of all ages. Its easy game mechanics and unique teaching style are a nice look at how games should be played. Head over to Google Play to check this one out today.
Lunatic Troopers from Siebn
One of my favorite indie developers has done it yet again. The maker of great titles like Ring Defense (a personal favorite), Hexonnect, and DefendR has just released a new addition to his popular line of “Lunatic” games (Radon and Rage). Lunatic Troopers is a modern recreation of the classic DOS game Paratroopers – featuring fresh new graphics and a killer soundtrack.
- 4 types of PowerUps: faster fire rate, faster bullet speed, faster cannon rotation and force shields to block bombs
- 100% scalable vector graphics
- Awesome soundtrack
- Sound effects
Siebn is known for making great games, and as expected Lunatic Troopers is no exception to this rule. It’s available for free on Google Play so be sure to give it a download.
Maniac Manors from Cezure Production
Maniac Manors is fantastic new game that falls under a wide number of different genres. At its heart it is an adventure game, but it also contains a nice blend of elements found in the puzzle, investigation, and “escape the room” genres. One of its best features is it’s unique setting that is based around H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos . The game takes place in some gorgeous 3D environments that really give you a feeling of the time-era the game is set in. As you journey through this mysterious manor you will find and collect items that will help you figure out what’s really going on. Your will be putting your observation skills to the test in Maniac Manors, so prepare to think outside of the box if you want to make it out alive.

You have just woken up to find yourself in a strange world, and you have also learned that your wife has been kidnapped. Luckily a mysterious talking bird has offered you his services as… your weapon! Bizarre, I know, but it’s frigging awesome too! Use him to destroy your enemies and help you on your quest to save your wife… and find out who you really are.

The game is sure to give older gamers a great feeling of nostalgia. So head over to Google Play and download Olethros for the nice low price of free.
Parallel Worlds from CmykSoft
Parallel Worlds is a new platformer that takes some obvious clues from genre classics like Super Mario Bros and Chip ’n Dale Rescue Rangers. However, Parallel Worlds adds some unique touches of its own, such as a colorful world to explore, various new gameplay elements, and a unique dark/light world teleport system. It turns out that the evil of the dark world has started seeping into the light world through portals located across the land. It is up to you to make your way through these worlds and collect magic crystals that will seal up these darn portals.
- An extraordinary concept.
- 30 different levels (and each level has two worlds).
- Funny music.
- Beautiful cartoon graphics.
This gorgeous platformer has a multitude of modern elements that make it a must play for fans of the genre. Definitely check it out. It is available as a free download on Google Play.
Parkourasaur from Uranium Squid
Parkourasaur is a new high speed, free-running, dinosaur survival adventure game. It turns out that your precious eggs have been stolen, and you need to get them back! You are going to have to be quick while you run and dodge your way through this treacherous prehistoric landscape.
Parkourasaur started out as a Kickstarter project back in 2012, so it’s nice to see it has finally made its triumphant debut on Google Play. If you’ve been looking for a rock solid prehistoric runner you should look no further than Parkourasaur. It can be all yours for just $0.99 if you head on over to Google Play.
Pivvot from Fixpoint Productions
Pivvot is a stunning new strategic avoidance game that is sure to test your reflexes and your patience. The game has you pivoting a stick-like character around a winding path that is covered with deadly obstacles. You must pivot this stick in the best way that you can to avoid these obstacles – but this is easier said than done. Pivvot is a tonne of fun, but be aware that the level design is extremely challenging, and is sure to infuriate even the most calm gamers out there. If you’re a fan of level of difficulty found in Super Hexagon you will feel right at home while playing Pivvot.
- Increasingly challenging gameplay with thirty different obstacles to conquer

- Procedurally generated path: every game is different!
- Four custom-composed, high energy songs

Pocket Ninjas from Cocky Culture
Pocket Ninjas is a new high-action slice-em-up that combines fun gameplay mechanics found in games like Ninja Gaiden and Fruit Ninja. You are tasked with defeating hordes of deadly samurai and ninjas while coordinating the movement of your onscreen protagonist. This character will be slashing away at his opponents and pulling off some hilarious combos to boot. Having this onscreen character is a unique element to this genre, and it adds a whole new level of strategy to this typically rather casual style of gameplay.
If you are a fan of slash-em-up games like Fruit Ninja you are going to feel right at hme with Pocket Ninja. Don’t take that to mean that Pocket Ninja is a simple clone, as it definitely isn’t. The unique art style and brand new gameplay elements make Pocket Ninja stand above others in the genre. Download Pocket Ninja from Google Play for free (and check out the developers companion app The Hibachi Ninja too).
Saving Iza from Runestone Studios
Match-3 games are without a doubt one of the most popular genres available on Google Play, so it really takes some unique gameplay or design elements to set a game apart from the others. Luckily Saving Iza is one of those games. The game follows a cute little alien named Xonkie who’s planet (Iza) has just been overrun with waste from humans. Humans have started dumping their garbage other planets in the solar system – but the citizens of Iza wont be sitting around idly. They’re going to destroy this garbage through the use of some fun and varied match-3 gameplay techniques.
- Help Xonkie recycle by matching 3 similar waste objects in a row or column.
- Getting more than 3 in a row will help you recycle faster and more efficiently.
- Beware! Each level has a limited number of moves or time!
- Saving Iza is completely free to play but there are optional in-app purchases.
- Get the highest score possible to get rewarded with Candy !
- The game supports Google Play Services for cloud saves, achievements and leaderboards! We highly recommend signing in!
Saving Iza is a match-3 game that feels unique, while not compromising the ever-popular match-3 style of gameplay. It’s unique setting brings to light an important issue that humans will one day deal with (it sort of reminds me of the movie Wall-E) – and in a way might be used as a semi-educational tool for kids. However, the game is still a tonne of fun and it can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Best of all it is a free download on Google Play, so head on over and download it right away.
The Secret Of Space Octopuses from Midgar Studio
The Secret Of Space Octopuses is a gorgeous new sidescroller that boasts console quality production values, exploration heavy gameplay, and it takes some obvious inspiration from the best of the “metroidvania” genre. In TSOSO you take on the role of Little Buddy, a talented but young genius whose peaceful world is turned upside down when he and his entire village are abducted by insidious aliens who just so happen to bear a striking resemblance to octopuses. After managing to break free from his captors he finds himself lost inside their massive ship and decides to build a giant robot in order to rescue his village and lay the smackdown on the alien invaders. The robot, appropriately named B.O.T.(Bunch Of Trash), can do alot more than smash things though as it can also absorb nearly anything in the environment and change it into a useful tool or weapon.
This console quality metroidvania-styled sidescrolling-platformer is available now on both OUYA and Google Play for $4.99 and $2.50 respectively.

Space Bombs is an innovative match 3 style puzzler that introduces a whole new way of looking at the classic genre. It follows the exploits of a group of anthropomorphized bombs as they attempt to save the planet from oncoming asteroids. You will also earn experience points as you play that will unlock new powers like being able to predict upcoming bomb arrangements.
