Retro Donkey Kong Parody Donkey Me Leaps Onto OUYA
An impressive new parody platformer called Donkey Me has arrived on OUYA, bringing Donkey Kong style gameplay and a whole heap of classic movie references along for the ride. Created by coding guru Bruno R. Marcos, creator of the Arcade Game Studio development software, Donkey Me is a hilarious send up of classic movies that apes the style of games from the 80’s and 90’s that the movies are from. It’s still has all the iconic gameplay you know and love, except this time you get to be Indiana Jones or Rambo instead of a fat plumber with a mustache.
You can tell a ton of work has gone into the design of each individual movie. Play the Star Wars scenario and you’ll be helping Han Solo save Chewbacca to the familiar Mos Eisly Cantina Band tune while storm troopers patrol the level. Each level within each movie has been uniquely designed to reflect a particular scene like Luke Skywalker rescuing Princess Leia from the Death Star. The chiptune renditions and retro bleep-bloops are extremely well done and quite catchy.
Since Donkey Me is a non-profit game, you can actually even download it for free. It’s available now on the OUYA store at no charge.
