Merciless New 3D Runner HEX:99 Will Give You Nightmares

When it comes to “impossible” style endless runners they are almost invariably 2D sidescrolling affairs, but a new 3D runner from indie developer weRplay called HEX:99 is bucking that trend by combining incredible visuals with a gameplay design that feels like Temple Run crossed with The Impossible Game. This mind meltingly cool high speed dodge ’em up doesn’t exactly do anything new but that’s whats so great about HEX:99, it’s easily one of the most polished examples of a perfect impossible runner we’ve seen in quite some time. It’s also incredibly difficult, sometimes to an almost absurd degree that will leave you in fits of rage over the inadequacies of your puny human reflexes, but without ever crossing that line in the sand that separates being challenging and being unfair.

The object of HEX:99 is simple, survive as long as possible by dodging a seemingly never ending procession of deadly obstacles and traps while flying down an eye popping Tron-like race course at insane speeds, but its implementation is so well done it’ll have you coming back for more despite being virtually guaranteed to fail over and over again. Players control a floating hexagon as it speeds down the track by dragging on the screen which requires high levels of precision in order to master. Not only is HEX:99 a gorgeous looking game it also has a fantastically groovy soundtrack of electronic music that will help to soothe any frayed nerves after failing a particularly epic run.

There are a lot of endless runners out there, so if you’re going to play one you might as well play one of the best ones you can with HEX:99. You can pick it up for free on Google Play.
