Terrific Touch Screen Platformer Aline Rolls Onto Android

An imaginative and well polished new touch screen based platformer by the name of Aline has launched on Android devices. The brainchild of indie developer Downstairs Games, Aline is a fantastic unconventional take on the platforming genre inspired by games like Kirby: Canvas Curse that uses intuitive free-form touch mechanics in place of the usual cumbersome virtual gamepad setup. After a makeshift rocket carrying loads of nefarious spiky enemies crash lands onto a peaceful island it’s up to the game’s title protagonist to save the day by head stomping and spin dashing their way through 13 challenging levels.

While ditching the tried and true but tired virtual gamepad control scheme can be a risky proposition due to the potential to make things unwieldy Aline’s line drawing mechanics work surprisingly well and allow for a great deal of nuance in their implementation. Much like a spherical Sonic The Hedgehog players must blast through expansive labyrinthine mazes at high speed without slamming into a spike pit or the business end of an enemy. This high speed physics heavy gameplay is punctuated by clever puzzle design where players will need to think smart as well as fast. Platforming aficionados will absolutely adore this fantastic touch screen based adaptation of the genre.

Aline is free to download on Google Play.
